A Parade!

Last Saturday, Joe endured his worst nightmare...a PARADE! I love parades, but Joe really dislikes them in general. We haven't actually been to one in years and years. I think the last time we went was when Jake (my little brother) was in high school and marched in the band. We went to his holiday parade, but I think maybe Ammon was a baby. This means that my kids have never attended a parade! How un-American is that?

Anyway, it seems that every little town here in Utah have these "city festivals" during the summer. Ours was last week. On Saturday they had a parade and other family stuff. I was DETERMINED to get Joe to take us. I decided that I would get myself an "ace in the hole" by inviting the Nortons! Aren't I a genius? Rachel was excited to come so we planned to have them meet us at our house around 8:30am. I figured that Joe wouldn't have an excuse if they were coming, hehe. Actually, when I told him that I wanted to take the kids to the parade, he didn't even flinch. He said that sounded fun!!!! What?!? Come Saturday morning, however, we were REALLY tired (stayed up too late on Friday) and I know if the Nortons weren't on their way we would have just forgotten the whole thing. So they were still my ace in the hole! :)

The whole gang waits for the parade to begin.
It was super hot and we were sitting on the sunny side of the street. All of the adults got very sunburned. Most of the kiddos survived pretty well, although Caleb and Bekah were pretty red.
Here I am with my hunky husband
Cute Lizzie waits patiently
Bekah (and the dads, lol) were not so patient.
Sarah and Hannah
The parade was very interesting for Bekah
I hope they never ask me to be on a committee for a float.
The kids were amazed to find out that people throw CANDY at parades, lol. We could hardly keep them off the street (okay, we didn't keep them off very well at all actually)
I took a picture of this because it just made me LAUGH, hehe!! Only in Utah...
Our kids were lucky that they didn't get run over they were so far in the street most of the time...
The kids were total scavengers! They were crazy for that candy.
This was one of the kids favorite floats. The girls couldn't stop talking about how one of the uh...white guys (what are they called? Imperial somethings?) gave them high fives!
Instead of candy, one of the floats threw otter pops. Here I am feeding one to Rebekah. Notice the orange juice all over my leg...
After the parade, there was a "family fun day" in the park nearby. Joe may hate parades, but I hate these kind of things. So many people...so many lines...so many ways for the kids to get lost...it just makes my "mommy detector" go CrAzY!! Here I am waiting in line with the girls for them to get their faces painted.
Hmmmm...Bekah wanted out! While I was with the girls, Joe let her out to play on the playground equipment. As soon as we were reunited, I put her back in the stroller, lol. I'm such a nervous nelly. It was just too hard to keep track of her. She didn't like my decision. :)
Didn't they do a great job with the face painting??
What would a carnival be without cotton candy?
Everything there cost from .25 to 1.50. I told my kids that I would pay for them to do/eat three things. All of the kids chose cotton candy.
The girls also wanted to go on the pony rides (still itching for it after the farm, I guess)
Hanny thought that the horse was a bit too "bumpy" for her taste.
Cabers wanted a snow cone
Look at all the candy we got!!! Holy cow. It was more than Halloween!

Hehe, yeah that was a TON of candy! My sunburn still looks rediculous too. But it was so much fun! The kids had a great time and I think Derek enjoyed himself too, even with all the complaining. :)
