Deep Thinking

Ammon was assigned to visit an Art Museum for his history final at school last week. I am still a little bit grumpy about the whole thing. It is a 30 minute drive for us to get to the museum. I mean, if his teacher REALLY wanted the kids to go there, why didn't she just take them there on a field trip or something? Sheesh. It probably cost us 40 bucks in gas alone (in my big old gas guzzler, at least). Anyway, rant over. Sorry...we will now return to the originally scheduled programming.

I took Ammon and Lizzie and we headed off on our great Art Museum adventure last Friday. Joe and I had planned to take the whole family for Family Home Evening on Monday as a "cultural event" FHE, but I got too lazy and we just did FHE at home instead. That is how we ended up spending Friday night at the museum. Joe and Caleb were sick or else the whole fam would have gone.

I've decided that I'm not much of a deep thinker. My grandpa is a professional artist. I mean, he was one of the few artists that actually supported his family on his art alone. I, however, looked at a bunches of paintings and sculptures and they didn't seem that different than my four year old's scribbles and play-dough creations. Fortunately for us, the plaques that accompanied each item told us what they represented. There must be a lot of people who visit the museum who don't always get exactly what the artist is intending, because the plaques really just spell it out for you. We're just not that smart, I guess. Anyway, it ended up being kind of fun (don't tell Ammon's teacher). It was nice being out with my "Septembers" (Lizzie and Ammon have September birthdays). We grabbed ice cream cones on the way home and got some treats for the kids at home as well. I'm hoping that I came away just a little bit smarter than I was before we went. I'm not holding out hope, though...

Are these kids adorable or what? Ammon (10) and Lizzie (6) They didn't allow pictures at this museum, so we can't actually prove that we went inside the museum, you'll just have to trust me. :)
A really nice stranger stopped and asked if I wanted him to take a picture of us. It was so thoughtful of him...he even paused his conversation on his cell phone to ask me. There really are good people in this world! Unfortunately, we are in shadow, but if you click on the picture you can kind of see us.
Joe had a nasty stomach bug this week that kept him home from work for two days! He didn't leave this bed. Caleb has been sick as well, although his only real symptoms are a fever and being really, really, really, really cranky.
Okay, this picture is kind of random, but here Joe and I are at the temple this week. The flowers were beautiful so we just had to stop for a photo.
