Musings

So...things are going very well here. The weather was quite chilly over the weekend (LOVED it!) and has stayed somewhat on the cool side. The kids even wore jackets to school for a day or two. As long as we don't creep back up into the 80s, I'll be happy. Okay, okay. I know that we are supposed to get back up there by Sunday or so. Oh, well. It is getting closer to Autumn anyway!

Life has been busier than I ever remember it. The kids are so happy, though, and doing so well. It makes a mom happy too. The older three kids made it into the choir they auditioned for and Lizzie had her first choir practice yesterday. She is so stinking cute at choir :). The older kids start next week. On a side note, the primary presidency has asked if my kids will sing a song for the primary program in a couple of weeks. I'm a little apprehensive of having Emma sing with them (she's a Sunbeam). She actually sings on pitch very well, but she has this strange (although adorable) habit of singing every line directly AFTER it is supposed to be sung. It ends up sounding like some sort of echo or something. I'm not sure if we can work the bugs out of that one. Do you think I should just tell the presidency that only the three older kids will sing the song, or should I work on it? Or should I just let her sing her silly little way?

Speaking of choir, I don't think that I mentioned here that I have the amazing opportunity of singing in the choir for Relief Society General Conference!!! It has been such a fantastic experience thus far and I absolutely love it. Everyone keep an eye out on September 27th (I think that is the date) for me in the choir.

Ammon auditioned for the school play this week. He made it through the first rounds of call-backs and has his final audition today. It is only for the middle school kids, so he is on the young end of the spectrum. He really, really, really wants to make it in. I was so relieved when he made it through that first round! We'll find out tomorrow if he gets a part. Keep your fingers crossed. He seems to have made some good friends at school, and even got together with them to "hang out" and play video games last weekend. He never really made any close friends last year in his previous school, so I have been pleased for him.

I have been pleasantly surprised at how great Emma is doing at preschool! We all know how "nervous" she can be about new experiences, but she has really embraced this one. She also seems to have suddenly gotten a great grasp on her letters and their sounds and how they relate to words. She will say..."puh, puh, Papa...Papa starts with P!" The alphabet has never really been her thing, so I have been happy to see her excited about it. Caleb now wants to go to preschool as well, but I told him he has to learn to go potty in the toilet first. :)

Lizzie has also had a sudden leap in her attitude towards reading. Suddenly she insists on only reading chapter books or the encyclopedia type books (why is it that kids seem to LOVE those books??). She told me the other day, "Lots of the kids in 1st grade don't seem to want to be smart. I am trying hard, though, because I DO want to be smart." Hannah is cute in the way she cheers Lizzie on. She will say, "Did you know that Lizzie read THREE chapters in her Junie B. Jones book last night? She is doing such a great job!" or some such thing.

Anyway, I had a couple of cute videos I was going to post of Caleb playing baseball this past week, but I can't seem to get the video upload to work. We'll have to hold off until the problem is fixed.

Okay, didn't really mean to make such a long post, but once I started I just kept on going! I hope you are all doing well! I'll tack on a couple of pictures from this week, just so this post isn't UBER-boring. :)

Is there anything cuter than kids in their jams?

Silly girls :)

Good luck to Ammon on his callbacks!!! :-) And I think letting Lizzie sing her own little way would be great :-). You could work on it with her, but don't stress about it - kids' contributions are sweet & pure, regardless of how polished :-). (And I'm so glad that she wants to be smart!!! That's so awesome!!! :-)

And OHMYGOSHHOWCOOLISIT that you'll get to sing in the RS General Conference?!?!?! Sweet!!!!! Speaking of keeping an eye out - you look GREAT!!!

Oh, and hey - let me know how that preschool-as-potty-training-incentive goes!!! :-) If it works, I might have to try setting up a little "preschool" thing for Kiddo ;-).
