Gone Fishin'

A couple of weeks ago, it was "free fishing" day. I knew that the state was planning different events for kids to come and fish. Since mine had never been before, I thought it would be fun. They were providing all the poles and, in addition, they were doing free games and food! We met up with the Nortons and some of their extended fam that was in town and decided to go check it out. Well... a lot of other people had the same idea as us, haha. It was packed. The kids got bored waiting in the heat. It was lunchtime, but I think the line to the food might have stretched to Nevada. Ugh.

We decided that instead of participating in this little event, we would run to Walmart and buy some kiddie poles, swing by McDs and head up one of the many canyons in the area instead. We had a few more adventures trying to find a spot to fish but finally (nearly six hours after we originally headed out) we were fishing! Of course, we caught nothing, lol. Oh, well. The kids had fun playing in the lake and it ended up being a nice day. We made another attempt at fishing the next week at a nearby community fishing pond (just ten minutes from our house) and struck out again. In fact, Joe and Derek have now been fishing six times and still never caught anything, lol. They have determination, however, and I know that they'll be eating fish soon. :)

Joe and Bekah on their way to the free fishing event

It was hot and boring in those lines!

Bekah waits (not so patiently) at Walmart while Mom runs in to buy the goods

The girls seem happy about getting McDs!

And we're fishing! Lizzie was the only one to get a bite...too bad we couldn't reel it in.

Emmerson gives it a try

That is one adorable kid! I am sure missing him at scout camp this week!

Papa helps Bekah

Bekah toys with the water

Lizzie is our little tree climber

The clouds look fake to me in this picture, hehe. Hannah is adorable, though

The kids always seem to be able to find enough adventures to fill hours of time

A beautiful setting and a beautiful girl :)

Bekah is a swimming machine. She is a maniac at the swimming pool and not much better here at the lake. She kept drinking that water! Ugh. What a water baby...

Cabers and Teancum play in the lake

The little girls chased a pretty butterfly that unwittingly flew into our area

I love how Sarah looks so proud after she caught the butterfly. Lizzie also held it, but I didn't get a picture.

Here we are fishing at our community fishing pond. If you click on this picture, you will see that all the line is completely tangled up...a never ending source of frustration when fishing with little kiddies

On the positive side, all the older kids have actually become quite adept at casting, lol. They get a lot of practice. Look at the concentration as Emma casts. :)

And she's off!

Little Lizzie looks for a bite

The kids played in the water as well (could that be the reason we didn't catch any fish? Hehe)
