Family History
Lately I have been feeling a bit like I am "spinning my wheels." Last week, as I read the First Presidency message this month in the Ensign by President Uctdorf, I was struck by this quote,
"Are we diligent in living the commandments of God, without running beyond our strength? Or are we just leisurely strolling along? Are we using our time, talents, and means wisely? Are we focused on the things which matter most? Are we following the inspired counsel of the prophets?"
While I do spend lots of time trying to improve my family and teach my children the gospel, I don't seem to do much else. Perhaps I feel that I have more talents AND time that I could be using to help others. The next day, Joe came home from church very excited about a lesson they had had in priesthood. They had talked about the Family Search Indexing and the need for people to help in this family history work from home. I knew that this was what the Lord was directing me to! The program is basically transcribing all the records from the microfiche and microfilm that have been scanned onto the Internet. This way, people will be able to access the records much more readily and easily. I really enjoy transcribing the records. Perhaps it is the history lover in me, but the records intrigue me. As I transcribe, I seem to make up stories about the people in my minds. The single mother in the 1920s, the death of a mother's ninth child at only two years of age, and so on. What were their lives like? How did these events affect them?
Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know about this great program. It is super easy and anyone can do it. You don't even need to be a member of the church. If anyone is interested, you can go to this link...
