Migraine pain

Our poor little Hannah Bay suffers from pediatric migraines. We first discovered this problem about 18 months ago. She was continually getting headaches, but she was really weird with them. She would be at the toilet like she was going to throw up. I would ask if her tummy hurt and she would exclaim that NO! her head hurt. I couldn't understand why she would think she was going to throw up if it was her head that was hurting. Soon after that, I pieced together the way she hated light and sound when she had a headache and something clicked.

Typically when Hannah gets a migraine, she needs to sleep and when she wakes up she is fine. Her migraines are virtually always in the afternoon or evening so she often will just go to sleep for the night (sometimes as early as 3pm). Unfortunately, this last Sunday about an hour after she woke up in the morning, she got a migraine. Around 9:30am, she went to bed. I checked on her throughout the day, but she kept sleeping until 8pm! I woke her up a few times, but she said her head still hurt and that she wanted to keep sleeping.

By 8pm, her head was still hurting but the other kids needed to go to bed. We brought her downstairs in the family room with us, gave her some medicine, and covered her eyes the best we could (to block out the light). After about 30 minutes, she started to feel a bit better. Emma wandered down because she sleeps in the same bed with Hannah and was having problems sleeping without "Hannah snuggling her." Hannah invited her to snuggle with her on the couch instead. I thought she was so sweet. )

Anyway, needless to say, it was a late night, lol! Hannah had slept for nearly 11 hours during the day. I stayed up with her until about 2:30am and then she was finally able to go to sleep. I let her sleep in the next morning (which was only until about 9am, which I thought was funny) and then took her to school late. Sigh...poor poor Hannah and her migraines! I really hope she outgrows them.

Hannah looked so funny with her sleeping mask and a BSU winter thingy to help keep it on. We had to take a picture. :)
I love how Emma is looking so adoringly at Hannah in this shot. Hannah is so good to her younger brother and sisters.
